Without further ado, here is my list of the top 10 shows this past 2007-2008 TV season. If you know me, some of the selections shouldn't be a surprise. Here's a montage of all 26 shows I watched, most of them I fully watched, one of them I stopped watching out of frustration (Bionic Woman), and one of them I stopped watching because it wasn't worth watching anymore after my favorite got the boot (Dancing With the Stars). Since then, four shows have been cancelled (BW, Women's Murder Club, Aliens in America, and Cashmere Mafia) while the rest are on hiatus. I didn't include Entourage and Weeds here because both shows didn't broadcast any episodes during this time, if I'm not mistaken.

1. LOST

What a fantastic fourth season this show had. I think it might be my favorite season of Lost even topping the awesomeness of season one. Why? Because I enjoyed ALL 13 episodes. They were all mind-numbing, mind-bending, mind-blowing. In other words, they were all mind-f*cks and in the Lost world, that's how our minds are treated and I love every minute of it.
The flashforwards brought an entirely new dynamic into the show and just in time because the flashbacks seemed to have gotten old and tiresome and didn't bring anything new to the stories anymore (with a few exceptions). The introduction of the "rescuers" was well-done and it's a good thing they made them likeable. Who knew we'd root for them along with the Lostaways AND the Others?
If I had to pick a favorite episode it would definitely have to be episode 5: The Constant. It was such a beautiful episode and was well-acted all around. I cried like a baby during that telephone exchange between Desmond and Penny and consequently felt like a loser for being too invested in this show and its characters. The episode also introduced/confirmed that time-travel is a possible explanation for some of the weird happenings on the island and that life on the island moves at a much faster pace than off it (am I getting this right or is it the other way around? This show hurts my brain sometimes).
The only thing I didn't like about this season was Danielle and Alex's death. I'm still bummed that we won't learn about Danielle's full story now that she's six feet under. And poor Alex. That death scene was cold. I didn't expect Keamy to shoot her so I gasped when he did. Now that I think about it, I didn't like the reintroduction of Michael/Kevin Johnson. I'm so over his character and especially the actor. I could have done without the entire episode dedicated to his story. I just checked IMDB and funnily enough, all of the dislikes I mentioned are on the same episode, hmm.
Now on to the loves: Kate and Sawyer, naturally. Because I'm shallow, I would like to thank the writers for showing us numerous semi-naked shots of those two lovebirds. I squeed endlessly when they "hooked up" while in the Others' camp. Then I squeed even more when Sawyer jumped off the helicopter after planting a big wet one on Kate. I can't get enough of seeing these two together.
I'm going to stop here before this turns into a novel. Lost was the best show during the 2007-2008 season, hands down. It was the show that I shed a lot of tears over and I have a feeling this isn't the end of it. It's just a shame that the high quality of the show doesn't seem to translate to more viewers.

2. 30 ROCK

When I grow up, I would like to be Tina Fey: smart, successful, funny, sexy, and just simply awesome. Thank God NBC renewed this show for a second season (and a third, yay!) because I don't think my life would be the same without the insanity and the inanity that this show is about. Where else would you find Al Gore declaring he hears a whale then running off to save said whale? Where else would you find someone creating a porn video game? Or how about someone creating a show called MILF Island? I can go on and on.
Hands down, my favorite moment this season has got to be Alec Baldwin's utterly brilliant and hilarious portrayal of Tracy's entire family. See for yourself below in the first clip. I don't think I've laughed so hard in my life when I first saw that (and the other times I've seen it since then). Alec is a frakking genius. If he doesn't win the Emmy for Best Actor in a Comedy, I will throw something at my TV. And if they don't win Best Comedy, it will be a travesty. Then again, I'm very biased.
My other favorite scene has to be Liz drunk-dialing the co-op board and acting like a pissed off ex-girlfriend. The sight of her drunk self on the treadmill and drinking wine is priceless. I also have to single out Jenna's recording some moaning sounds for Tracy's porn video game and doing a very convincing job only for Tracy to say "Okay, let's hit it from the top and this time, let's record." Yes, it's moments like this that make the show for me.

3. LIFE

Best new show? You bet. I admit the title of the show is a tad uncreative and the premise does not exactly evoke any feelings of excitement but why do I consider it the best new show this past TV season? Three things: 1) superb acting by almost everyone especially by the two leads Damian Lewis and Sarah Shahi, 2) surprisingly excellent writing and storytelling, and 3) great use of music. What else can you ask for?
Back when the TV season started last year, I wasn't even that excited to check it out. I was only doing so because of Sarah. Much to my delight, the premiere was very good, it was getting pretty good reviews and since then I never looked back. It's too bad this show is not getting the attention or the praise it so rightly deserves. But then again, fans of other shows that aren't high-profile can say the same thing about their favorite show so this is probably me wasting my breath.
If you are interested in checking out the show, please do. I assure you that you won't regret it. The characters are compelling, the week-to-week cases are pretty interesting for the most part, and the continuing storyline as to who framed Charlie is one heck of a tangled web. You gotta love his fascination with fruit too and Dani's exasperation at the Zen-isms he throws out randomly. Sarah plays that part very well and her facial expressions never fail to make me laugh. Hulu has all 11 full episodes up on their site for streaming (only available for Americans, I'm afraid).

4. THE AMAZING RACE

No competition here. This is the best reality show on TV. Nothing even comes close, imo. Even though I sorely, SORELY missed Dustin and Kandice in this installment of the show, I still enjoyed immensely because the team I was rooting for (TK and Rachel) won it all. Boo-yah! They were mostly under the radar for most of the episodes and they even got slack for being too laidback and not taking the race seriously or not wanting it enough (shut up, Jen). No matter, they won it and Nate and Jen didn't. Ha! Cannot wait for the next edition in the coming months.

5. AMERICAN IDOL

Of course this show is here. Shouldn't be a surprise to any of you. And it also shouldn't be a surprise as to why it's here. Brooke White. She became my favorite Idol contestant EVER and I cannot wait until she releases another CD (I'm already starting to grow weary of Songs From the Attic). From the moment she sat down behind those keyboards during the Hollywood round and sang (and botched!) Carole King's Beautiful, I was sold. Week after week, the love started to grow then it kinda faded a little then it's back for good.
Her back-to-back semifinal performances of You're So Vain and Love is a Battlefield along with her top 12 performance of Let It Be were unbelievable. You're So Vain was fun, Battlefield was an amazing acoustic version, and Let It Be was just perfection. Unfortunately, she started to falter after LIB (I really blame the producers for f*cking it up by doing another Beatles theme the week after).
Here Comes the Sun was a mess but the studio version of the song is surprisingly one of my favorites; I loved Every Breath You Take but some people *coughChriscough* could not get past the fact that she didn't do the song justice because it seemed as if she sang it as a love song instead of a stalker-ish type of song (the studio version is excellent); then she did Jolene for Dolly Parton week and her performance was lost in translation; You've Got A Friend was boring; Hero was expected and alright; You Must Love Me was the one where she started and then stopped but after that it was a pretty damn good vocal performance; I'm A Believer was funny; and her swan song I Am, I Said was her back to being fantastic. Too little too late, I'm afraid.
Even though I didn't like the top three or the outcome of the show, this was my favorite season because the contestants all seemed to genuinely like each other. I still think Cook is smug (first impressions last forever) but he seems like a cool guy from what I've heard or read about him since he won the show. The tour starts this Tuesday in Brooke's hometown and I can't wait to find out what they have in store. I want Jason and Brooke to do a duet! Before the clips, I was looking at the LJ entry where I predicted who was going to win and I can't believe I chose Michael. Interesting, that.

6. THE OFFICE

The show continues to be funny. As long as it does, it will always make my list. I wasn't too thrilled with the finale and the proposal-block from Andy. Not cool, dude. Overall, the season was good but the beginning wasn't all that. This show needs to be a half-hour long or else it loses its funny just a tad. Jim and Pam were still cute and I don't think they lost any of their spark at all. Michael is still an ass but a good ass. Dwight conspiring against Andy was a hoot. LOVE Kelly and her digs at Ryan.

7. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA

BSG was a late addition to this list. I already had my list made up before the last two episodes of BSG aired and I had to scratch Ugly Betty off my list to make room for this because those last two episodes made the season for me. Actually, let me correct myself. Tigh revealing himself as a Cylon to Adama was the sole reason this show made the list. What a fantastic, fantastic scene. Michael Hogan deserves something for that amazing piece of acting there as well as Edward James Olmos. It's a shame none of the awards people give this show the recognition it deserves but it's the case with most of the shows I watch so whatever.

Three words: Blair and Serena. The rest of the cast is great too but they're the main reason I watch the show now. I really hope they become best friends forever because I think I'm going to stop watching if they end up being at odds again.

Good spy fun with good-looking people! Easily the most entertaining show in this list (not that the rest of the shows are not entertaining, they are, in their own way) because it's just pure fun. It's great to see a show that doesn't take itself too seriously.

10. ALIENS IN AMERICA

A feel-good family show that's also very funny. Such a shame this was didn't get renewed. Most of the shows I watch survived except for this. I don't know what the hell The CW is thinking. It's one of their most critically-acclaimed shows and for a network that's just starting out, it's not a good move to axe a show that's getting good reviews. I am going to miss the Tolchuks, Raja, and Franny's accent.

The L Word: this was almost a sure-fire thing to make it on the list but the finale frakked that up with Shane hooking up with Niki and betraying Jenny. Why would I even consider putting this on the list? Jenny and Niki. They made the season for me and for the first time in the show's history, I liked Jenny. They're great to watch together and the chemistry is insane. It helps a lot that Kate French is hot as hell and has a body to die for. Mia's not too shabby herself.

And that's it. I hope you were entertained by that. Thanks for reading!
